Jaume Plensa has created both intimate sculptures and magnificent large-scale public projects—such as Crown Fountain in Chicago’s Millenium Park—giving intangible concepts a physical presence.
As a recipient of numerous national and international awards, his work is highly praised for the elegant use of a wide variety of media. In Plensa’s sculptures, text can be both literal references and poetic clues. In As One… he uses the names of the five continents and blends them into one word as a symbol of Canadian multiculturalism. The glass is coloured in red and letters in white to represent the Canadian flag.
