Potential TTC Strike: Plan Your Commute to and from Toronto Pearson

The TTC plays a major role in helping passengers get to and from Toronto Pearson — but what happens when the transit agency’s largest union goes on strike? As early as Friday, June 7, ATU Local 113, which represents roughly 12,000 public transit workers, says it could go on strike, potentially resulting in major disruptions to service across the City of Toronto.

Airport operations will continue as normal in light of a potential TTC strike. For those impacted, there are several TTC alternatives to consider for getting to and from the airport.

Travel Alternatives to and from Toronto Pearson

If a TTC strike does occur, traffic in the areas surrounding Pearson is likely to be heavier than usual. Be sure to plan and give yourself plenty of time to arrive. Here are a few options:

1. UP Express: The Union Pearson Express train departs Union Station for Terminal 1 every 15 minutes. The ride lasts about 25 minutes, with stops at Bloor Station and Weston Station (where riders can connect to GO Transit). Fares vary by type.

2. GO Transit: GO Buses and Trains are a good option during a TTC strike, but some transfers may be required. Go Trains are also available to the Union, Bloor, or Weston stations and then transfer to the UP Express to Pearson.

3. Surrounding regional transit: Other regional transit options are available and will continue operation during the TTC strike from the surrounding greater Toronto areas, including Mississauga MiWay, Brampton Transit, York Region Transit and more.

4. Uber or Lyft: Bookable car services are available from the Uber and Lyft apps. Service options include a private car or ride-sharing with others heading in the same direction.

5. Taxis and Limos: Taxi and limo service remains a transportation option at Pearson, with enhanced cleaning of each vehicle being undertaken by our taxi and limo partners after each trip. Taxi and limos are available on the arrivals levels at both terminals.

6. Viscount Station Kiss and Fly: To avoid traffic congestion at the terminals, use the Viscount Station Kiss and Fly passenger drop-off and pick-up. Our Viscount train station offers an easy and quick connection directly into Terminals 1 and 3. Trains run 24/7 at 7-minute intervals.
