On January 4, we observe World Braille Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the importance of Braille for blind and partially sighted individuals. Braille is not only a writing system but a tool that empowers people to engage with the world by accessing education, employment and independent living.
At Toronto Pearson, we are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all travelers, regardless of ability. As part of our ongoing efforts, we’ve introduced several features to support blind and partially sighted passengers:
- Our check-in kiosks have braille labelling for independent and accessible check-in process.
- Navigation apps such as Aira, which connects travelers to trained agents for real-time assistance, and BlindSquare, which provides detailed, accessible navigation through smart beacons.
- Tactile cues at staircases support white cane users.
- Dedicated service dog and pet relief areas, ensuring comfort for travelers with service animals.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable trip, we recommend notifying your airline of your needs at least 48 hours before your flight.
These initiatives are part of our mission to make Toronto Pearson a safe, welcoming, and accessible space for everyone. We’re proud to continue advancing our accessibility efforts and ensure that every passenger can experience the joy of travel with confidence.
