TORONTO - This exercise is part of Pearson’s continuous efforts to enhance safety and security at Canada’s largest and busiest airport.
Today, the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) held an emergency exercise that simulated a plane crash.
The exercise involved approximately 300 members of the airport community and volunteers to take part in the mock plane crash. Other responders participating in the event included Peel Regional Police, Fire and Emergency Services and Flair Airlines.
"Our top priority at Toronto Pearson is safety, and we strive continually to improve our response to emergencies at the airport," said Craig Bradbrook, Chief Operating Officer, GTAA. "The exercise provides us and our airport and emergency service partners the opportunity to test all aspects of our joint response and to identify where we can improve. I am very impressed with the way everyone has responded today. It really underscores the commitment we all have to emergency preparedness.”
The GTAA typically runs one full-scale exercise and one tabletop exercise a year to test protocols, procedures, communications and planning for emergency and/or security related incidents. The results of the exercise will improve protocols and procedures and identify shortfalls and gaps.
